Terms & Conditions, Legal Information, Insurance & Customer Protection
Last updated: September 2026
These Terms & Conditions explain the agreement between Plymouth Movers (“we”, “us” or “our”) and the person or organisation requesting or purchasing our services (“you” or “the Customer”). They also explain our booking and payment procedures, deposit and cancellation rules, insurance and licensing information, privacy practices, use of email and WhatsApp, website policies and customer responsibilities.
By accepting a quotation, making a booking, paying a deposit or asking us to commence services, you agree to the terms applicable to your booking. Nothing on this page removes or restricts statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded.
1. Services, Quotations & Pricing
Plymouth Movers provides removal and related services including house and flat removals, man and van services, furniture moving and delivery, office and commercial removals, packing and unpacking, furniture dismantling and assembly where agreed, storage transport, clearance work, heavy-item and appliance moving, long-distance UK removals and other services specifically included in your quotation.
Only services shown as included in your quotation, accepted additional services, or other work agreed with us in writing form part of your booking.
Pricing types
Depending on the job, your quotation may use:
- Fixed Price
- Hourly Rate
- Half Day Rate
- Day Rate
- Another pricing arrangement specifically stated in the quotation
A quotation may show estimated duration, minimum hours, additional half-hour rates, package inclusions, optional services and other pricing information. Unless expressly described as a fixed price, an estimated total is an estimate rather than a guarantee of the final amount.
A quotation remains subject to availability until the booking has been confirmed. Any validity period stated in the quotation also applies.
Information used to prepare your quotation
The Customer must provide reasonably accurate information about the move, including addresses, property type, floors, lift availability, access restrictions, parking, approximate quantity of goods, large/heavy/fragile items, dismantling or assembly requirements, additional addresses, storage requirements and anything else that could materially affect the work.
If important information is missing, inaccurate or materially different when the job takes place, the price, duration, staff, vehicle or other resources required may change.
2. Booking Confirmation, Deposits, Cancellations & Postponements
When a booking is confirmed
Accepting a quotation does not necessarily mean that a booking has been fully confirmed. Where a deposit is required, the booking is normally secured only after the quotation has been accepted, the required deposit has been received or otherwise satisfied, and Plymouth Movers has issued the booking confirmation.
Where no deposit is required, confirmation may be issued once the booking has been accepted and approved.
Booking deposits
Some bookings require a deposit. The amount or percentage will be shown in your quotation or deposit request. A deposit reserves resources for your booking, forms part of the total amount payable and is deducted from the final balance.
More than 48 hours before the job: If you cancel and request a deposit refund more than 48 hours before the scheduled starting time, your booking deposit will normally be refundable.
Within 48 hours of the job: If you cancel within 48 hours of the scheduled starting time, the deposit will normally be non-refundable and may be retained as a cancellation charge.
Any amount retained remains subject to applicable consumer law and must be reasonable in relation to losses directly caused by the cancellation. Statutory cancellation and refund rights are unaffected.
If Plymouth Movers cancels a booking and cannot provide a suitable alternative accepted by you, money paid for services that will not be supplied will be refunded as required by law.
Statutory cancellation rights
Customers who enter into certain contracts online, by telephone or away from normal business premises may have statutory cancellation rights. Where those rights apply, they operate in addition to these Terms & Conditions. If you ask us to begin providing a service during an applicable statutory cancellation period, legal rules relating to work already requested or performed may apply.
Changes and postponements
Please tell us as soon as possible if you need to change the moving date, start time, addresses, quantity of goods, access arrangements, required services or other important booking information. Changes are subject to availability. A late or substantial postponement may be treated similarly to a cancellation where we have already reserved resources or incurred costs.
3. Payments, Additional Work & Final Amount
Additional work and charges
Reasonable additional charges may arise where the work takes longer than included or estimated, extra goods or services are requested, extra addresses are added, access is materially different from that disclosed, waiting time occurs outside our reasonable control, parking/toll/ferry charges are incurred, specialist equipment or extra staff are reasonably required, or the Customer asks us to undertake additional work.
Where reasonably practicable, we will explain substantial additional charges before carrying out the extra work. For hourly services, additional time is charged using the rate and time increment stated in the quotation.
Payment methods and balance
Payment methods may include bank transfer, debit or credit card, cash where agreed, and secure card payment links. Card payment links may be processed by an external payment provider such as Square.
Any deposit already received is deducted from the final amount due. The remaining balance must be paid in accordance with the quotation, booking confirmation or payment request. Additional amounts agreed or arising during the job may become payable when the work is completed.
Payment receipts may be issued electronically by email after a successfully recorded payment.
We do not normally receive or store your full debit or credit card number through our booking and customer management systems.
4. Customer Responsibilities, Access & Excluded Work
The Customer is responsible for providing accurate information and taking reasonable steps to help the work proceed safely and efficiently.
- Be present or arrange an authorised representative where needed.
- Ensure legal access to collection and delivery properties.
- Tell us about parking restrictions, permits, narrow roads, height restrictions and difficult access.
- Ensure goods are reasonably ready for removal.
- Protect cash, jewellery, passports, important documents, valuable electronic data and other irreplaceable items.
- Tell us about high-value, antique, unusually fragile, specialist or very heavy items before the job.
- Check that nothing intended to remain at the property is removed in error and that no required item is left behind.
- Tell our team about known health, safety or property risks.
Work not included unless agreed
Our standard removal service does not automatically include specialist electrical, plumbing or gas work; structural alterations; removal of permanent fixtures; unsafe loft access; specialist lifting requiring equipment not arranged in advance; or work our crew reasonably believes cannot be performed safely or lawfully.
Furniture dismantling and appliances
Furniture dismantling and assembly is carried out only where agreed. Some flat-pack, antique, specialist, custom-made, previously damaged or weakened furniture may not tolerate dismantling and reassembly, and we may decline work where the risk is unreasonable.
Appliances should be emptied, appropriately defrosted, drained, secured and disconnected unless a relevant service has been agreed. Any work that legally or safely requires a qualified electrician, plumber, gas engineer or other specialist must be carried out by an appropriately qualified person.
Goods we cannot normally move
Unless specifically agreed in writing and lawful to transport, customers must not present explosives, ammunition, gas cylinders, dangerous chemicals, illegal or stolen goods, controlled drugs, highly flammable substances, live animals, perishable goods requiring controlled temperatures, items requiring licences/special legal authority, or other goods that cannot safely or legally be transported.
Parking, waiting and delays
Reasonable parking, toll, ferry, permit or access-related charges incurred specifically in carrying out your booking may be added where they were not included in the quotation. Waiting caused by delayed keys, unavailable access or other circumstances outside our reasonable control may also become chargeable where this increases the time or resources required.
Schedules may be affected by severe traffic disruption, road closures, extreme weather, accidents, vehicle breakdown despite reasonable maintenance, ferry disruption or other exceptional events outside our reasonable control. We will make reasonable efforts to keep you informed and minimise disruption.
5. Insurance, Customer Protection, Claims & Waste Licensing
Goods In Transit Insurance
Plymouth Movers maintains Goods In Transit insurance relating to goods transported as part of our removal operations. Cover is subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions and limits of the applicable insurance policy.
Please tell us in advance about particularly valuable, unusual, antique, fragile or specialist items. We may request photographs, a written inventory or declared values where appropriate.
Public Liability Insurance
Plymouth Movers maintains Public Liability Insurance in connection with our removal and related business activities. Cover is subject to the terms, limits and exclusions of the applicable policy.
Customer-packed and fragile goods
Where the Customer packs boxes or containers, the Customer is responsible for ensuring they are suitably packed for normal removal handling and transport. Fragile items should be properly protected and identified. Damage caused solely by unsuitable customer packing or a pre-existing defect may affect responsibility for the loss.
Reporting loss or damage
Please inspect goods and property as soon as reasonably possible following the service. If you believe an item or property has been lost or damaged, contact Plymouth Movers promptly with your booking or quotation reference where available, a description of the issue, photographs and relevant supporting information. Prompt notification helps us investigate while information is still available.
Licensed Waste Carrier & clearance work
Plymouth Movers operates as a registered waste carrier for relevant house-clearance and waste-removal activities. Where clearance work is included, we aim where reasonably practicable to reuse suitable items, recycle appropriate materials, donate suitable goods and dispose of remaining waste through appropriate routes. Customers must not knowingly provide prohibited or hazardous waste without telling us in advance.
6. Email, WhatsApp, Telephone & Digital Booking Communications
To manage enquiries and bookings efficiently, Plymouth Movers may communicate using email, WhatsApp, telephone, website forms/customer pages, secure payment links and other electronic service communications.
Our booking and customer management systems may generate or send service communications including enquiry acknowledgements, quotation notifications and links, acceptance confirmations, deposit requests, secure payment links, booking confirmations, booking updates, reminders, and post-service messages. Payment receipts may be sent by email.
Some communications may be generated automatically following an action, payment or change to your booking.
Where you provide a mobile number and communicate with us through WhatsApp, or WhatsApp is reasonably used to manage your enquiry or booking, we may send service-related messages through WhatsApp. WhatsApp is provided by Meta and is a third-party communication service.
Relevant message content, telephone numbers, timestamps and delivery information may be retained as part of our customer-service and booking records. If you prefer not to receive booking communications through WhatsApp, tell us and we will use another suitable contact method where reasonably possible.
Operational enquiry and booking communications are separate from promotional marketing.
We may use the email address supplied by you to send quotations, confirmations, deposit information, payment requests, payment receipts and other booking/service information. Please ensure the email address supplied is accurate and check spam or junk folders when expecting an important message.
7. Privacy, Personal Data, Third-Party Services & Cookies
Information we may collect
Depending on your interaction with Plymouth Movers, we may collect your name, telephone number, email address, collection/delivery addresses, property and access information, moving requirements, dates/times, quotation and booking information, payment status and transaction references, communication history, survey information, photographs supplied in connection with a booking or claim, and website/technical usage information.
How we use information
We may use information to answer enquiries, prepare quotations, arrange surveys, manage bookings, provide services, communicate booking information, collect and record payments, issue receipts, investigate complaints or claims, maintain accounting/business records, improve services, protect against fraud or misuse and comply with legal/regulatory obligations.
Depending on the purpose, processing may be necessary to take steps before entering into a contract, perform our contract with you, comply with a legal obligation, pursue an appropriate legitimate interest, or rely on consent where consent is required. We do not sell customer personal information.
Third-party service providers
We may use third-party providers for website hosting, email, WhatsApp/Meta communications, card-payment processing, Google services, analytics, address/mapping services, calendar/scheduling services, IT security, backup and administration. Information is shared only where reasonably required for the relevant service and those providers may operate under their own privacy terms.
Retention and your rights
Information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for booking administration, customer support, accounting, insurance, dispute resolution and legal or regulatory requirements.
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability. You may contact Plymouth Movers to make a request or raise a data-protection complaint. If you remain dissatisfied, you may also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Cookies
Our website may use essential cookies required for normal operation. Where applicable, analytics or similar non-essential cookies may be used to understand website performance and improve visitor experience. Where consent is legally required for a non-essential cookie, we will seek that consent through the website’s cookie controls. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings.
Website information, external links and accessibility
We make reasonable efforts to keep website information accurate and up to date. General prices, examples, guides and service information are not individual quotations. Your personalised quotation and written booking information take precedence for your particular booking.
Our website may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content, security, availability or privacy practices of external websites we do not control.
Plymouth Movers aims to keep its website clear, mobile-friendly, accessible and easy to use. If you experience difficulty accessing information, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to provide the information in another suitable form.
8. Consumer Rights, Complaints, Agreement & Governing Law
Consumer rights
We aim to provide services with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes rights, remedies or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Complaints
If you have a concern about our service, please contact Plymouth Movers as soon as reasonably possible and provide enough information for us to identify the booking and investigate the matter. We will make reasonable efforts to review and respond fairly.
The complete booking agreement
Your accepted quotation, booking confirmation, accepted additional services, agreed written variations and these Terms & Conditions together form the agreement for your booking. Where a specific written term in an accepted quotation is intended to vary a general term on this page, the specific booking term will normally apply, subject always to applicable law.
Governing law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Nothing in this section removes any statutory right a consumer may have regarding applicable law or jurisdiction.
Updates to these terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The terms applicable to a confirmed booking will normally be those provided or made available when that booking was entered into, together with any later variation agreed with the Customer.
